Alberta Soils Network Webinar - Natural and Anthropogenic Inputs of Arsenic and Selenium to the Environment in Alberta
25/01
Online access
1
Industrial development of the Athabasca Bituminous Sands (ABS) in northern Alberta, Canada, has raised concerns that emissions of arsenic and selenium to the surrounding landscape and waterbodies have been increasing over time. To test this hypothesis, a comprehensive study of arsenic and selenium in a variety of environmental media from the ABS region and other areas of Alberta was conducted. This talk provides perspective on contemporary and historical inputs of arsenic and selenium to the environment in the ABS region and summarizes important environmental challenges related to arsenic and selenium in the province.

Training: Water Act Approvals - Environmental Approvals System OneStop
27/02
Online webinar access from Red Deer, AB
3
On January 18, 2019, Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) launched the Water Act Approvals component of the Environmental Approvals System (EAS) OneStop. This marked a significant change from the conventional application process to a new, online system for the administration of Water Act approvals and notices. The EAS OneStop is a web-based, risk-based, data-driven system that provides clear direction about information required for applications, increases the consistency and transparency of the application process for applicants, and removes several internal steps resulting in reduced application processing times. The Water Act Approvals Project is the first phase in transforming our regulatory approach towards a one-window, integrated approvals process.
