A Practice Area (PA)is an area of expertise that requires specialized knowledge, skills and experience. PAs identify functional areas of practice within the profession of agrology as uniquely as possible.Each PA includes six core knowledge areas that define specialized knowledge to ensure effective practice.

PAs assist members in assessing their competence for a particular PA, and later assist them in targeting their Continuing Competence Program (CCP) based on the knowledge areas required to work in that PA. There are eighteen PAs. A table outlining each PA and its knowledge areas has been developed.

The eighteen PAs are Management; Regulatory Support and Consultation; Environmental Monitoring; Agricultural and Natural Resource Economics; Rural Development and Support; Crop Development; Food Development and Processing; Greenhouse Gas Assessment and Management; Livestock Production; Rangeland and Pasture Management; Environmental Impact Assessment and Mitigation Planning; Land Classification and Evaluation; Land Conservation and Management; Water Resources; Wetland and Riparian Areas; Contaminated Lands; Land Reclamation; Biosystems, Biosolids, Compost and Manure Management.
