Any decision made by the Registrar, Registration Committee, or Competence Committee may be appealed by two processes:

Reconsideration Review: Within 30 days of receiving a copy of a decision regarding an individual's application, designation, or recommended practice area(s), the individual may request a reconsideration review by giving the Registrar a written request for a review that sets out the reason(s) for the review. There is no charge for this review. Details about the reconsideration review may be found here.

Formal Appeal: In the event an individual is not satisfied with the reconsideration review outcome, the individual may request a formal appeal to the AIA Council within 30 days after being given a copy of the reconsideration review decision. The individual must provide the Registrar with a written request for a formal appeal that sets out the reason(s) for the appeal. Details about the formal appeal may be found here.
