Duane Briand, PAg

From the time Duane was old enough to help out at his grandparents’ ranch in the Peace Region of Alberta, he knew agriculture would always be a big part of his life. He spent four summers during and just after his university days working with Ag Canada as a pedigreed seed crop inspector. In the fall of 1988, after he’d completed his Bachelor of Science degree, Duane began his full time career in Agriculture. He spent 3 years managing forage seed purchasing and production in the Peace Country for Pickseed. He went on to work with an ag retail before becoming the Northern Alberta territory manager for Sandoz Agro Canada.

Along the way, he earned a Pesticide Applicator License in Ag/Industrial/Landscape and a Registered Seed Establishment (RSE) Operator License. In 2014, Duane was named CAAR’s Agronomist of the Year. Recently Duane took SUSTAIN training and has begun helping growers move to the next level in sustainable farming practices.

Duane has worked as a Professional Agrologist with Parkland Fertilizers (Wetaskiwin) Ltd for the last 19 years. He and his wife, along with their teenage children, are proud to call Wetaskiwin home.
